Houses for evicted families
The project would build 40 prefabricated houses for families evicted from the Guayaquil swamp areas, with panels made of wood, bamboo and concrete. The project was not implemented. Beginning of construction was first postponed due to unforeseen problems associated with the political campaign for municipal elections. SELAVIP was then informed about difficulties in completing the legal formalities required to obtain municipal permits to build. Since regulations require submission of studies and reports from various public agencies to this effect, HCG preferred to suspend the project. They intend to again applicate for funds in the future to build housing for these families who were already singled out. Because these problems were not anticipated in time, 40 families in great need were left with an unfulfilled hope to access safe shelter. Additionally, resources that could have been used to help other poor families to obtain shelter were immobilized.
